August 7, 2010 - Composite deck in progress
Currently working on a composite deck in a new subdivision in Richmond Hill. It is a walk-out deck that wraps around the brick with several steps reaching down to the backyard. This is a great example of simple form and design. Decks that look as though they were part of the house plans are always the best. They are an outdoor extension of the house and always appear inviting and accessible. Nicely done Mike!

love the french doors out to the bbq. But just What is a composite deck?
Hi Cheryl, sorry for the delayed response. Composite decks are plastic or plastic blends, sometimes mixed with wood fibres and are offered in wood like colours and textures. They are often sold as low maintenance solutions. However, in my opinion, a wood deck is more beautiful, smells great, and can be refinished after several years to look like new again. Especially hardwoods like Ipe or mahogany, they will last you 40 years with proper care.
I like the wrap around. All about the details.
Really decks are an outdoor extension of the house and always appear inviting and available. Thanks for the information.
